South Central Virginia southward to Key West, Florida and westward to the Mississippi River
Diet:
Lizards, other small snakes, baby mice, earthworms, and insects
Habitat:

After heavy rains they can be found in the open but most commonly found beneath logs and bark in wooded areas containing pine trees

Special Notes:

Very nervous little animals, difficult to get a wild caught to eat mice. Due to small size of the hatchlings, feeding is difficult as well.

Even though this is a Scarlet KingSnake it is a subspecies of Milk Snake (Lampropeltis triangulum).

The Scarlet Kingsnake is a true coral snake mimic. The rhyme to remember which snake is poisonous is "Red and Yellow will kill a fellow. Red and Black Your Friend Jack. So if the red bands touch the yellow bands it is probably a coral snake and poisonous. There are exceptions to the rule.
